چکیده
Abstract Background Anatomopathological staging is the primary method to determine prognosis of patients with colorectal carcinoma (CRC). However, new tools have been developed that can complement it, such as analysis elevation systemic inflammatory markers. Objective To evaluate impact scores based on markers (the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio [NLR], Glasgow Prognostic Score [GPS], and isolated C-reactive protein [CRP]) in diagnosed CRC submitted potentially curative surgery Hospital de Braga, Portugal, between January 1st, 2005, December 31st, 2010. Methods A retrospective data 426 was performed, a collection several clinico-pathological variables, well levels lymphocytes, neutrophils, albumin CRP, pre- postoperative periods, apply different sample. Results From survival curves, we concluded increased NLR periods present lower cancer-related than normal (preoperative period: 93.7 versus 122 months; p < 0.001; 112 131 = 0.002). Patients also had disease-free 88.0 111 132 In addition, associated higher risk death due (preoperatively: hazard [HR] 2.25; postoperatively: HR 2.18; 0.003). multivariate shows only (ajusted 2.66; 0.002) does so independently remaining variables. Conclusion Regarding applied sample, one most consistently related patients. it would be useful develop prospective study could confirm this relationship.

Inflammation-based prognostic scores and nutritional prognostic index in patients with locally-advanced unresectable colorectal cancer
BACKGROUND Unresectable colorectal cancer has a poor prognosis. However, some patients survive intensive chemotherapy, and complete resection of primary and metastatic tumors may even be possible. In the present study, we examined the prognostic factors associated with survival after intensive chemotherapy in patients with unresectable colorectal cancer. METHODS This retrospective study enrol...

Systemic inflammation responses have been associated with cancer development and progression. C-reactive protein (CRP), Glasgow prognostic score (GPS), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-monocyte ratio (LMR), and neutrophil-platelet score (NPS) have been shown to be independent risk factors in various types of malignant tumors. This retrospective anal...
متن کاملPrognostic value of preoperative inflammation-based prognostic scores in patients with stage IV colorectal cancer who undergo palliative resection of asymptomatic primary tumors.
BACKGROUND The need for palliative resection of asymptomatic primary tumor in patients with unresectable metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) is still controversial. In order to identify predictors of survival after palliative resection, we investigated the correlations between clinicopathological factors, preoperative Glasgow prognostic score (GPS) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and s...
متن کاملPrognostic value of SPARCL1 in patients with colorectal cancer
Secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine-like 1 (SPARCL1), a member of extracelluar matrix glycoprotein, has been reported to be associated with various tumor types. The present study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of SPARCL1 in patients with colorectal cancer. Tissue microarray blocks were constructed based on 79 patients who underwent radical surgery at the Kunshan First People's ...
متن کاملPrognostic Inflammation Score in Surgical Patients with Colorectal Cancer
Several inflammatory markers have been investigated as prognostic parameters in a variety of cancer population with mostly favorable results. This study aimed to verify the significance of common inflammatory markers as prognostic variables and assess whether a selective combination of them as prognostic inflammation score (PIS) could further improve their prognostic values in surgical patients...
